Bluetongue is on the OIE list (a list of the World Organisation for Animal Health, Office International des Epizooties). This means that a suspicion of bluetongue always be reported to the Food and Safety Authority (VWA).
Current measures
In 2007 showed that the damage was greater bluetongue. The Netherlands email data therefore prepared a vaccination plan to combat bluetongue and sheep, goats and cattle immune to the virus. The European Union in 2008 supported these measures against bluetongue. Since 2009, the vaccination costs borne by the farmers themselves.
Future measures
The damage increases by bluetongue. Like other EU countries the Netherlands has established a vaccination to susceptible animals (cattle / sheep and goats) to protect by vaccination. In 2008 the EU supported the vaccination campaign financially.
International
Bluetongue is early 20th century, first recognized as such and described as a disease in sheep in South Africa. In 1993, bluetongue also found in cattle in South Africa. Bluetongue in Europe was first established in 1943 in Cyprus. From 1956-1960, there were major outbreaks in Spain and Portugal.
Early 21st century, many Bluetongue found in all countries of southern Europe. In 2006, bluetongue was first established in northwest Europe.
