The report published by Yankee Group on ubiquitous connectivity places Spain as the fourteenth country in terms of broadband Internet access, an indicator of the degree of digitalisation that the country has achieved. The current economic crisis is causing a change in consumers, who instead of devoting their free time to "more expensive" activities, are turning to entertainment and the information that the Internet offers.
Gonzalo Salsas, Managing Director of NTT bc data taiwan Europe Online, points out that: “The rapid digitalisation of everyday life and the increase in multimedia services have begun to change not only the way we consume the Internet, but also the number of users who connect to the network every day. In the last US presidential elections, a clear trend was seen: the media and the US government launched powerful websites where the inauguration could be followed live, establishing special sections to which they dedicated a lot of resources, including numerous images and videos… However, some of these sites have experienced performance problems. For this trend to become a reality, infrastructures that offer ubiquitous access and the best connectivity to enjoy greater multimedia content, participation, speed, etc. are needed.”
The shift in technology is allowing businesses, institutions and governments to move away from hosting providers, leaving the complete management of their platforms in their hands.
