The role of SEO in SGE. The birth of SGEO?

Post by tongfkymm44 »

What is SGE and why will it change SEO forever?
SGE stands for Google Search Generative Experience and, for now, it is an experiment in which generative AI functionalities are incorporated into the traditional Google search engine.

Here is an example of a search where it is activated. For now its exposure is timid, although, as we can see, it is already at the top. Thinking like an SEO we could say: "Well, for now you still need to click on "Show more" to see the generated result."

SGE search example 1

In this example, the search results for NNormal and Runner's World would healthtrax corporate email database still not see a significant impact on their CTR.

Once we click on “Show more” is when we see the new engine at full performance.

SGE 2 search example

At this point we can see that there are no longer any traditional organic search results on my entire screen .

What we can see is a carousel of results at the top right and more questions below. Let's take into account that this is not going to be the final look that the engine will have when it is launched and there may even be other versions within the experiment. But we can already guess that clicks on organic results are going to fall.

How to combat the drop in organic traffic that SGE will bring
Many sources have recently commented on a more than likely drop in organic traffic when this new search engine is finally launched.

Search Engine Land is considering scenarios of losing between 18 and 24% of organic traffic.
In this post on Brandignity, there is talk of a 30% drop .
For now, these are speculations; we do not really know the impact, but the predictions are negative.

Improve your SEO!
However, there is still hope that the results that appear in the carousels or the new elements of information sources that are launched can bring clicks to the websites.

What seems clear is that three SEO optimizations are going to gain enormous relevance:

EEA. The « expertise ». Being recognized as a reliable source of information is going to be fundamental in the future of the search engine. In fact, it is the only link that we detected in the first tests of Google SGE.
Structured data. In a recent post by Eric Mercier on LinkedIN, he mentioned the fact that all structured data that complements the search will have a much greater weight. We are talking about structured data from events to technical sheets on cars, as we are already beginning to see. This type of data "speaks" the language of the search engine.
Conversational style . This may be a change that goes unnoticed at first, but do you find that you search for information in chatbots like ChatGPT in a completely different way than you do on Google? The writing style will probably be much more relevant in the future. You have to think in terms of concepts, rather than keywords.
What about SEO tools? Will they still be useful?
Fernando Maciá also asked himself this question in an article on the Human Level website. A highly recommended article, by the way, especially for understanding LLMs or large language models.

Will current tools like Sistrix, Ahrefs or Semrush be useful for performing an SEO audit when the new AI-powered search engine starts to make an impact?

Several articles also mention that, now yes, the results beyond position 9/10 are invisible. It is as if they did not exist.

In fact, the rankings themselves will have little meaning once the CTR drops. Tools will probably have to find new ways to generate recommendations or show analysis of the positioning.

Furthermore, the hyper-personalization of search that I talked about here will mean that the current reports we see will probably not make sense or provide any kind of strategic information.

Don't worry! We've been through this before, haven't we?
Finally, it is important to note that learning from what happened in the past to understand the present (and the future) is also important.

When Google completed search results with Knowledge Graphs, there was a noticeable increase in zero-click searches. Searches in which the search engine already answered the user's question. (You can find out more about this in this post )
