Bust myths and address SEO objections

Post by Ehsanuls55 »

You should be mostly home and dry by this stage, but your boss probably still has some questions and concerns. Answering them will take some thought, as the questions vary, but some common concerns tend to come up.

Let's look at some of them:

“Isn’t SEO a kind of scam?”

Given the number of dishonest SEO services on the market (I'm sure we've all received those calls promising first page rankings), this is a more than fair question.

But how do you approach it without getting too defensive?

Be honest! Explain that while some SEO service providers take advantage of vulnerable chief vp compliance email list business owners, the SEO process itself is legitimate. It is simply the process of influencing known Google ranking factors to help pages rank higher in search results.

You can also use “social proof” to your advantage. For example, you can show that 60% of marketers say that inbound marketing practices, such as SEO, are their source of the highest quality leads:

If you want to take it a step further, consider showing your boss Ahrefs Site Explorer ‘Traffic Value’ metrics for competitors who are doing well. Explaining how Competitor A gets an estimated XXXX organic visits per month valued at $XXXX will likely make it clear to him how he can get involved in the business and see similar results with SEO.

“Doesn’t SEO take forever?”

This is another frequently asked question where honesty must come first; because SEO takes time. Rankings don’t happen overnight, and anyone who says otherwise is probably selling the wrong product.

In fact, according to our study of two million keywords, only 5.7% of pages rank in the top 10 in a year:

Most bosses know there's no magic formula for fast ROI in marketing, so explaining that something takes time isn't necessarily a bad thing. It shows that you understand how things work and that you have a realistic perspective. Think of it as a positive, not a negative, and keep moving forward, don't stop.

“What happens if we get removed by a Google update/penalty?”

Yes, Google updates and penalties are scary topics, and rightly so. Many sites have seen their organic traffic disappear virtually overnight after a penalty.
