What is a featured snippet?

Post by rumana777 »

From now on, pages that are prominently highlighted as a featured snippet on Google search results will no longer appear again in the form of a regular search result on the first search results page.

Danny Sullivan announced this in a post on Twitter. Avoiding duplicate entries is intended to help users find the information they are looking for more quickly.

Until now, it was actually the case that a page that was highlighted as a featured snippet at the top could appear again further down in the search results.

The term "featured snippet" refers to the prominent rcs data philippines highlighting of a page in the search results. A featured snippet is also known as "position 0". Many website operators see it as an award when a section of their pages is used for this.

Featured snippets are often used to answer specific questions. For example, if you google “How is Kölsch brewed?” you will find a longer excerpt from Wikipedia that could already answer your search query:

This is exactly where opinions differ: While on the one hand it is seen as a kind of "knighthood" when Google uses a page as a featured snippet, the other side of the coin is that this page potentially receives less traffic because the user's search query is already answered with the featured snippet.

This can cost site operators traffic and therefore revenue. On the other hand, your own website gets more attention through the snippet. If you refuse to display your own site as a featured snippet, a competitor's site could be used instead and you would also be at a disadvantage.
