"After the first year, the real 'awareness' came"

Post by bitheerani319 »

Seven years ago, Lola Hernández left Madrid for Germany in search of a sustainable career opportunity. Today, Lola lives with rcs data vietnam husband and cat in Munich, where she works as a Spanish coach with Spanish speakers from all over the world. What motivates her most is sharing her knowledge and experiences through her blog .

When and why did you decide to move to Munich?
In 2010, there was a severe economic crisis in our country, which meant that, as we were unable to find sustainable professional opportunities, we saw Germany as a good alternative for living and working.

Did you find it difficult to adapt to your new life? What was the most difficult thing?
The first year, no. Because everything was new, I went from discovery to discovery as if I were on holiday in a way. I felt like I was learning German very quickly, meeting lots of new people and being quite enthusiastic. After the first year, the real “awareness” came, as we say in coaching : my German was far from good enough to stop being a barrier, the “holidays” were over and I began to realise how far away my loved ones in Spain were, physically and emotionally.

What do you consider to be the best thing about the experience of living in another country?
The opportunity to learn about another culture, another language, to see your own culture from the outside and, over time, to be able to consciously choose which part of each culture you want to keep.
