What is Duplicate Content
Duplicate content issues occur when search engines encounter multiple URLs with identical or very similar content. As a result, search engines don’t know which URLs to rank higher, causing all URLs to rank lower.
In the previous section, we already addressed keyword guatemala mobile database cannibalization caused by writing about the same topic too often. But in most cases, the root cause of duplicate content is technical and can happen without you noticing. For example, some content management systems add session IDs or parameters to track URLs. Or, you might have both and non- versions of a page indexed. As a result, you'll have multiple URLs showing the exact same content.
How you should fix duplicate content issues depends on the cause of the problem. Generally speaking, there are three ways to fix the problem – in order of preference:
Avoid creating duplicate content whenever possible. For example, if your system creates session IDs in URLs, try turning them off.
Can't avoid creating them? Use 301 to redirect those URLs to the original versions.
Do you really need to keep a duplicate article? Make sure to add a canonical link to the original version in the section of the duplicate article <head>. It will show search engines what the original version of the article is, so they can pass the link juice to the original version. In the next section, you’ll see how easy it is to do this with Yoast SEO.
