Beyond recognizing the problem, the study also highlights the importance of addressing climate and environmental issues from the perspective of solutions journalism . A more constructive treatment of climate can empower stakeholders and give greater visibility to many initiatives and innovations. In addition, it serves as an antidote to the fear or fatalism that the scale of climate change could arouse.
Television news and regional daily press are student database leaders in this solutions journalism around climate. 1 in 4 subjects is "constructive" on TF1 and 1 in 5 subjects on France 2 (the others do not mention a solution, or only an inevitability). The study notes, however, that the constructive subjects of these news programs focus essentially on individual and autonomous ecological initiatives; the question then arises of broadening the types of solutions discussed.
In the regional daily press, 27% of climate stories adopt a "constructive" angle (this includes prospective elements, declarations of intent, initiatives and concrete decisions) versus 17% in the national daily press. However, the PQN is the media most involved in climate coverage.
