Book Word of Mouth Marketing

Post by mostakimvip06 »

Finally read the book Word of Mouth Marketing by Andy Sernovitz. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in SMM and public relations on the Internet.
Firstly, this book really has a lot of practical examples. If not one, then another will definitely hook you. It is difficult not to want to do at least something after reading this book.
Secondly, this book is not a boring description of technical actions, for example, how to create a group on Facebook. It infects with an idea. Or rather, with ideas. For me personally, this is much more valuable.
Thirdly, it was clearly not written as a textbook on SMM. But in fact, it is an excellent textbook on SMM. The main problems of SMM (in my subjective opinion):

Lack of understanding why SMM is needed (now it looks like this: everyone does it and we will too) and
Running after short-term goals or some mythical KPI (let's order 5 articles from top ecuador whatsapp data bloggers and positive reviews in the market)
The author has covered both areas very well.
Fourthly, the book is easy to read and can be read in one go. You can read it in 1 day (but I, as a true slowpoke, read it for 7 days). This is where it compares favorably with "guerrilla marketing", which is written in a heavy language.
In general, here is my scan of the control sheet, where I marked the pages that were useful to me personally. Plus, I still have a few more sheets of paper with my ideas that came to mind while reading the book.
So I definitely recommend it.

Needless to say, if you don't need to support IE6, feel free to delete the entire section in formalize.css and everything that pertains to it, since all of these styles are duplicated for this one browser only. In fact, you should be abandoning IE6 anyway.

Additionally, IE6 and IE7 have artificial box-sizing support added to <textarea> so they can go 100% wide and still have margin and padding. You can read more about box-sizing on CSS Tricks

A number of people helped me make Formalize what you know. Namely, Anthony Short for pointing out that WebKit search can indeed be overcome, and Chris Coyier for a hint on how to set the color of placeholder text. Thanks also to Jonathan Snook for taking a screenshot of my screen in IE6 on Windows XP (just to double-check IETester), and John Saddington for taking a shot on his iPhone 4.

If you're curious about how this all looks in different browsers and operating systems, check out the screenshots attached. I have to say that while Opera excels in raw functionality, it also wins in sports competitions for the ugliest styles for some of the newer HTML5 form elements, the worst offender being date-time.
