Analysis shows that Dutch people are predominantly positive about Google's new social sharing platform Google+. Also in this social media update: How do you ensure that updates from your Facebook page end up at the top of the news feed? And: half of Dutch companies do not use social media for communication or marketing purposes, rumors about Microsoft's social search platform & the relationship between sender and receiver is of great importance in assessing tweets.

The Netherlands is predominantly positive about Google+
The Netherlands has received Google's social sharing platform, Google+, predominantly positively. This is evident from a sentiment analysis by social media monitoring agency Buzzcapture . The new social network is positively received in 23% of the expressions, a minority of the expressions (16%) had a negative tone.

“Google’s strategy of providing a limited number of invitations for Google+ has indeed led to a lot of extra exposure, but the downside is that there is little to do for the first users,” says Alex van Leeuwen, director and founder of Buzzcapture. “The discussions in the social media are characterized by a mixture of frustration and admiration for Google+. Frustration about the launch strategy and the lack of activity in the network; admiration for the design and some innovative features, such as Circles and Hangouts, which seem to be better developed than with the (intended) competitor Facebook.”

Also striking is the focus on the titanic battle Google vs. Facebook . Facebook (n=3,831) is mentioned in over 15 percent of the statements in combination with Google+, while Hyves appears in 1,212 statements about Google+. It is predicted that Google+ will be bigger than Facebook within six months. The new social network is seen as the biggest threat to Facebook and people also think that Google+ is a formidable competitor for other social media platforms, such as Twitter and Linkedin. The 'invite' is the most discussed term. The trade in invites mainly takes place via Twitter. And for the real fans (+1'ers) there are even special Google+ T-shirts available to order (see photo).

News feed optimization for your Facebook fan page
Some Facebook updates rank higher in the news feed than others. As a Facebook fan page owner, it’s important to know how to make sure your status updates rank at the top of the “Most Important” tab. First, it’s important to know that Facebook uses an algorithm called Edgerank to determine what content is ranked at the top of an individual Facebook user’s news feed. Each time an interaction (comment, tag, like) occurs on a status update, it’s called an “edge.” The more important the “edge,” the higher the status update ranks. Edge importance is determined by:

– Affinity : the relationship between the 'edge creator' and the person who is viewing. The more often you visit a friend's profile, the more often you respond to someone, the higher your affinity score with that particular friend.
– Weight: each type of 'edge' is given a weight, a response is given more weight than a like for example.
– Time: the older, the less important.

Jeff Widman , Facebook analytics expert, discovered that 99% of the comments people leave on a status update on your Facebook page are posted via the news feed instead of on the wall of your Facebook page. Based on this, he came up with some obvious but good tips for news feed optimization.

1. Engaging content: provide content that provokes a response. Put the question that latvia phone number list provokes a response first, instead of at the end of the status update. Ask questions that don't require people to click (read more) first to be able to answer. Focus on yes-no questions to lower the threshold. Even if you post photos or videos; always add a question or the option to tag themselves.

2. Ask for the 'like': don't be afraid to ask for the like. Asking directly is the most powerful, don't be afraid of it. For example 'click 'like' if you like our new homepage design.

3. Be welcoming: Make sure your Facebook page is up to date, visually appealing, not spammy, and adaptable. As your fans change and evolve, it is important that you evolve and change with them.

Microsoft leaks social search platform
Microsoft has, by its own admission, accidentally leaked the first images of its own social platform. This is according to various media based on the website Socl.com where a welcome page for a social platform called Tulalip accidentally appeared. The website now states: “Thanks for visiting. Socl.com is an internal project of a team within Microsoft Research that was accidentally put online. That was not the intention, really not.”
