When do we still speak of 'social media'?

Post by Bappy11 »

How relevant is your corporate site in the world of social media? It is a discussion that pops up from time to time. The 'social media fanatics' believe that with just a presence in social media you can create a great home base for your customers, since they also use this channel. Critics point out that Google is still the dominant way of searching.

I personally think that the truth lies somewhere in between. The problem with this discussion is that it is based on a hopelessly old-fashioned ideology, namely that you have to make a choice between one or the other. It sounds a bit like a polder-political solution to use both, but it is not. There will be 1 point where the emphasis is placed. However, this will not be either social malta phone number list media or the corporate site, but rather one of the available communication channels. The website is one of them, the spectrum of social media that you use is also one of them, and even your offline marketing activities are one of them.

The prominent presence and explosive growth in popularity of share buttons (whether Facebook Like, Twitter's tweet or Google's +1 button) are a great illustration of the intertwining of social media and the traditional website. Not so long ago, these were separate islands, but now content is pushed from websites to social media platforms and social media is a source of information for websites in both an editorial and technical sense.
