The Dakar City Department of Education and Integration Assistance presented certificates on Thursday to inmates and former inmates of remand centers in the Dakar department following training in fruit and vegetable processing, digital marketing, computer graphics, video editing, and project management, APS noted.
The ceremony, organized in partnership with the Finama Business School training institute, was chaired by the Mayor of Dakar, Barthélémy Dias, in the presence of the National Observer of Places of Deprivation of Liberty, Madiaw Diaw, the representative of the Prison Administration, Captain Sidy Yakhya Diouf, and the Director of the Finama Institute, Bécaye Guèye. The event was attended by the Director of Education and Integration Assistance for the City of Dakar, Pape Konaré Diaité, elected officials, religious authorities, "badiénou gokh" (neighborhood godmothers), and members of civil society, including Alioune Tine and Birahim Seck.

"This project aimed to restore the skills and know-how needed to reintegrate prisoners into society. Its objective is to promote reform and education for prisoners, to stimulate their sense of social responsibility to enable them to better adapt to life in society," said the city's mayor, Barthélemy Dias.

It will now be part of the activities to be sustained,'' he assured, announcing that for the next session, the city would invest in the value chain of the mechanical sector. ''The target will not change and the number of beneficiaries will be revised upwards,'' he said. He also announced that an envelope of 10 million CFA francs will be made available to the beneficiaries through the Municipal Development Fund (Fodem) to support them towards employability. ''The products transformed by these new residents will be in all the baskets that will be distributed during Ramadan and Lent by the City of Dakar. They will also be purchased as part of the World Forum on the Social, Solidarity and Circular Economy which will take place for the first time in Africa, more specifically in Dakar from May 1 to 6,'' he announced.
