GOOGLE INTRODUCES INTO BEHAVIORAL TARGETING

Post by asimj1 »

The search engine is today launching the beta version of its interest-based advertising system on its own content network and on YouTube. The Interest Based Ads system will be available to all advertisers until the end of 2009 through the AdWords system .

Google is trying to translate its search engine marketing expertise into creative solutions for advertisers to better reach their consumers. The options presented by Google with this behavioral targeting system, called Interest Based Ads, are the following:

– Users who have visited an advertiser’s website will later bc data malaysia encounter a banner from this advertiser on sites in the Google content network, AdSense, or on YouTube. For example, if a user is interested in a brand’s spring-summer collection, this advertiser can present this user with a banner in December with the January sales.

– Another option is to show users display ads that correspond to the topics they are interested in. For example, if a user is interested in car videos on YouTube or visits websites about this topic, the system will classify them as car lovers and when they visit the Google content network, they will see advertising related to motoring.

Users can influence the system by indicating their preferences in the Ad Preferences Manager , where they can remove categories or adjust them. Additionally, users have the option to opt out of this behavioral targeting system .

For Google, advertising is a useful source of information for users, as it presents them with products, services and ideas that interest them. “Whenever we make advertising more relevant and improve the connection between advertisers and our users, both parties benefit equally,” says Susan Wojcicki, vice president and director of products at Google, on the official blog.

Websites participating in AdSense have until April 8 to adapt their privacy policy statements to Google's new terms of use: they will have to inform users that when they visit their website, they may be shown graphical ads from the Interest Based Ads system.
