After being criticized numerous times for the security of its platform in recent months, TikTok has today announced a series of updates and new features aimed at making the social network safer, especially for its younger users and LGBTQ communities .
These are some of the main updates announced by the social network that should be applied in the coming weeks:
Stricter controls on the posting of videos depicting dangerous actions, particularly through certain "challenges",
The removal of all content that highlights eating disorders,
Clarification of the types of hate ideologies prohibited on the platform, such as content that supports or promotes conversion therapy programs,
The consolidation of the policy to protect the security, integrity, availability and reliability of the platform.
In addition, a new system will soon be introduced to identify and restrict teenagers' access to certain types of content based on their age.
Updated 3D avatars coming soon to Instagram
Already available on Facebook, Messenger, and in the metaverse with the Meta Quest (ex-Oculus) headset, 3D avatars will soon be rolling out to Instagram in Stories and Direct Messages. In a recent tweet , Meta also claimed that these new avatars would benefit from new customization options , including new face shapes, skin tones, hearing aids, and wheelchairs.

Meta delves into NFTs and cryptocurrency
You’ve probably heard about it in the past few weeks, or even months, but do you really know what NFTs are? “NFT” is, in fact, short for Non Fungible Token. A token is a digital asset issued by a blockchain.
This unique “virtual token” serves as a certificate, so only its owner can justify its ownership. An NFT can therefore serve to justify a purchase and prove its authenticity. Some NFTs sell for a high price, such as the NFTs of anonymous artist Pak, which sold at auction for $91.8 million last December.
NFTs have been around for several years, but the phenomenon has gained risk managers email database momentum since 2021. This market has everything to arouse the curiosity of large companies, as it rose to $40 billion last year. It is therefore not surprising that Meta, always at the forefront of what is happening on the web, has decided to invest in these NFTs.
The Facebook and Instagram teams are preparing a feature that will allow users to show off their NFTs on their social media. Instagram could be used as a showcase to display digital objects. It even seems that the Meta Group is currently working on creating a marketplace dedicated to NFTs following the example of OpenSea (the website that allows users to sell or buy NFTs).
In addition to NFTs, the Meta group is also very interested in cryptocurrencies. Facebook announced last December that it would integrate a homegrown cryptocurrency wallet into the WhatsApp app to allow users to send money (using cryptocurrencies) directly through instant messaging.
However, Meta’s cryptocurrency project “Diem” (formerly called Libra) and its “Novi” wallet are already the target of much criticism, especially since the revelations made by whistleblower Frances Haugen in late 2021, who accused the group of choosing “profit over security.”
For now, Meta is still in the early stages of its NFT and cryptocurrency ambitions, but rest assured, Mark Zuckerberg won't let this opportunity pass him by.
