Content is king . This was the title of the essay published by Bill Gates in 1996. At that time, Gates was already clear that the success of companies that want to be present on the Internet depends on the creation of content and how content curation allows this to be done while minimizing costs.

Do you want to implement a content marketing strategy in your company? Start with a good content curation strategy . One that addresses only the topics that really interest your reader and offers the information in the format and language that is ideal for them.

Last week we talked about how to find inspiration through benchmarking art director email database and today we want to teach you how to get the most out of all the content the Internet has to offer.

But to avoid confusion, let's start by clarifying what content curation is and what it is not.

What is content curation?
When we talk about content curation, or content curation for the coolest people , we refer to the process of searching, selecting and reconstructing the information that already exists on the Internet to shape new blog articles, posts on social networks or any other type of content.

That's right! Always remember that content curation isn't about creating a Frankenstein with bits and pieces of other texts.

It would be more like making a cocktail: choosing the ideal ingredients to create something new, adding the personal grace and charm of the bartender or, in this case, the content curator.

What is content curation?

Why is content curation necessary?
As we have already explained, content curation consists of selecting information that has already been published and enriching it with our point of view or personal knowledge. In other words, providing our vision on a topic that has already been discussed before.

For this reason, content curation is a good tool to differentiate yourself from the competition . Because, thanks to the contribution of new points of view or the way of presenting the content, we can position a brand and reinforce its authority in a given sector.

But it is not only possible to curate other people's content. It is actually very interesting to carry out periodic content curations on our own content, to update it and adapt it to the public's demand at any given time. So that, as a consequence of this curation, its positioning in search engines improves.

Types of content curation
The concept of content curation is relatively new.

It was coined by Rohit Bhargava in 2011, as a consequence of the great information overload to which we are exposed because, since the 2.0 revolution, anyone can upload their content to the Internet.

Faced with this situation, Bhargava detected the need for a figure that acts as a filter against so much information and is responsible for selecting the pages that offer quality information to differentiate them from the rest. And this is the birth of the content curator .

When a curator sets out to do his job, he can opt for different types of content curation:

Aggregation
This type of curation consists of grouping all the content that the curator considers interesting about a topic in one place. In this way, it saves consumers a lot of search time.

Distillation
In this case, the curator will create new content based on the most important points of the original posts. This is basically a summary.
Elevation
Content curation by elevation focuses on finding new trends through observation, analysis and the ability to relate information from diverse content to the topic at hand.

Mix or Mashup
Mashup content curation is the result of mixing several publications with our personal contribution to create a new, enriched piece.

Chronology
This type of curation is very useful when you want to show the evolution over time of a concept or idea, since it presents new content based on information about different historical moments in relation to a specific topic.
