When nofollow was introduced, Google did not count links marked this way as a signal to use in its search algorithms.

But that is no longer the case.

All link attributes are treated as indications of which links to consider or exclude in searches.

SEO experts believe that treating nofollow links as an indication means that Google may grant some trust through nofollow links, for example when an authoritative news platform adds the attribute to an entire site.

Follow links
A follow link passes trust (PageRank) and does not add the nofollow attribute.

Note : There is no "follow" attribute because acres data any link is considered "dofollow" unless an attribute is added.

Sponsored or paid links
Sometimes you can pay an affiliate or influencer to promote one of your content or post a review of one of your products.

If money, or a product or service, was given in exchange for a link, a rel="sponsored" attribute must be added to inform Google.

The rel="sponsored" attribute prevents your site from being negatively impacted by these links. So, if you are working with an affiliate, you should use the "sponsored" attribute for that backlink.
