It may contain diagrams, text, glossaries, decision summaries, background information, or anything presented for review and comment. The associated Cover Sheet presents the material as a Package. The Cover Sheet contains fields for the author, date, project, document number, title, status, and notes. There are two types of IDEF Kits: The standard set is intended for commentary. It is considered a "working document" intended to help the developer refine his overall model. An Update Set contains the latest version of a model. It is sent out for information only and is intended to help maintain current information about the overall model while a portion of the model is being processed in the Set Cycle.

Standard Kits contain portions of the model and are submitted frequently as work progresses. Standard Kits are submitted as part of the IDEF Kit Cycle and are of the type mentioned in the rest of this appendix. Update Kits are submitted at regular intervals.
